Venous thromboembolism is a condition in which a clot forms in the deep veins of the leg, groin, or arm [deep vein thrombosis, DVT ]. When a portion of the clot [embolus] travels in the circulation and lodges in the lungs, it is a pulmonary embolism [PE ]. Together, DVT and PE are known as VTE–a dangerous, potentially deadly medical condition. Today, October 13, is World Thrombosis Day [Click for full WTD information].
