Decoding Laboratory Test Names

I just learned about our newly released publication: Passiment E, Meisel JL, Fontanesi J. Fritsma G, Aleryani S, Marques M. Decoding laboratory test names: a major challenge to appropriate patient care. Journal of General Internal Medicine, published online 11/29/12, DOI 10.1007/s11606-012-2253-8. The bound edition will be released in January. Clinical laboratory results influence at least 70% of medical decision making, and the authors intend for this article to significantly improve communication between the clinical laboratory, physicians, and the rest of the health care team, especially in this age of accountable care. The article is an outcome of the Clinical Laboratory Integration into Healthcare Collaborative, a work group established by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
