EC Markers in COVID19 Thromboinflammation

The devastating COVID19 pandemic has led medical researchers led by Brandon M. Henry, MD, Division of Nephrology and Hypertension, Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center, Cincinnati, OH, USA to identify and characterize the pathophysiology of a number of thromboinflammation-related endothelial secretions. Some important terms relatively new to medical laboratory science include ADAMTS13/VWFag ratio, NETosis, and cell-free DNA. The attached article provides an in-depth look at these markers and their correlation with advanced COVID19 disease outcomes as illustrated by their relationship to acute kidney injury:

Cell-free DNA, neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs), and endothelial injury in coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19)-associated acute kidney injury. Henry BM, Santos de Oliveira MH, Cheruiyot I, Benoit J, Rose J, Favaloro EJ, Lippi G, Benoit S, Shakked NP. Mediators of Inflammation 2022.
