From Maria Jose Lauria: I would like to know if you have any experience in patients with oral anticoagulants and ketogenic diet given to patient with seizures.
Hello, and thank you for yet another fascinating question. I have no experience with anticoagulation in association with the ketogenic diet in seizure disorders. A literature search reveals a single publication involving only 11 patients, Pacione D, Blei F, Devinsky O, Weiner HL, Roth J. Coagulation abnormalities in children undergoing epilepsy surgery. J Neurosurg Pediatr. 2011;:654–9, which indicates no interaction. As this study may not be conclusive, I’ll ask our participants with experience to respond to this question.
